Tenant registration with the police in Dhaka

থানায় ভাড়াটিয়া নিবন্ধন

Checked 21 October 2026. A plain-language summary, not legal advice.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police asks every household in the city, landlords and tenants, to register through its citizen information system. It began in 2016 and covers all DMP police stations. Millions of households have registered. We have not found a legal penalty for not registering, but the police ask for it and many landlords require it before handing over keys.

What the form asks for

  • Tenant's name, father's name, date of birth, marital status, religion, education, occupation and workplace
  • Mobile number, NID or passport number, email
  • Permanent address and previous address, previous landlord and why you left
  • Family members living with you, domestic help and driver with their NID and phone
  • Emergency contact, and the landlord's name and phone
  • A passport-size photo

How to submit

Collect the form at the local police station or outpost, fill it in, attach NID copies and a photo, submit it at the station and keep a photocopy. Register again when you move.

Fill it in faster

The tenant information form tool lays out the same information in Bangla and English so you can print it and copy it onto the station's form. Landlords using Ovelit Rent can print it straight from the tenant's file.
