Splitting WASA, Titas and electricity bills fairly

পানি, গ্যাস ও বিদ্যুৎ বিল ভাগের নিয়ম

Checked 21 October 2026. A plain-language summary, not legal advice.

Many Dhaka buildings have one WASA water meter, a shared gas line or one common electricity meter for the lift, pump and stair lights. Someone has to split the bill, and the split is where most landlord and tenant arguments start.

Four ways to split

  • Equally per flat. Simple. Fair when flats are similar.
  • By number of people. Best for water.
  • By floor area. Best for lift, generator and common electricity.
  • By sub-meter. Best for electricity when each flat has its own sub-meter: units used times your rate, plus any fixed charge.

Make it visible

Show each flat's share as its own line on the monthly bill, with the total and the method, and keep the original bill to show anyone who asks. Decide whether empty flats share the cost and write it in the agreement.

Try the utility bill splitter. In Ovelit Rent, enter the bill once and every flat's share lands on its monthly bill.
